A bridge that is still becoming a bridge

The most remarkable thing about a living bridge is not its age. It is the care that keeps moving forward.
Meghalaya

The path down to Nongriat is counted in steps, but that is the least interesting way to measure it. The useful measure is shade, rain and how often a stranger makes room for you on the stairs.

A root bridge is guided rather than assembled. One generation starts a line it may never cross; another inherits the work and keeps training it over the river.

Travel is better when a place is not reduced to an attraction. Here, the bridge is not a monument behind a rope. It is alive, used and still unfinished.
